The Arabic Book- A treatise on book production in Medieval Islamic Society: The book titled The Arabic Book is a treatise on book production in Islamic society as it existed in medieval times The Arabic Book has been written by Johannes Pedersen, a Dutch writer. It was translated into English by Geoffrey French and was printed by the Princeton University Press, Princeton, New Jersey. The original book, which was in written in Danish, is titled ‘Den Arabiske Bog’. ‘Den Arabiske Bog’ was published in Copenhagen in 1946. The author of the Arabic Book, Johannes Pedersen, a renowned scholar of Islamic religious studies was historian specializing in religion. The first edition of the 'Encyclopedia of Islam' carries an authoritative article by Pedersen titled 'Masdjid'. In the various chapters of The Arabic Book, the author has presented the essence of his deep research of the Quran and Arabic literature. Separate chapters on writing and books in Arabia before Islam and the composition and transmission of books have been included. The book also deals extensively with subjects like Arabic script, calligraphers, writing materials, scribes, booksellers, bookbinding, libraries and printed books. The book is now out of print; and, at the moment, only used copies may be available for sale.
