Auxiliary Power Units for trucks: Auxiliary power units for trucks are portable systems that can provide heat, air conditioning and power for trucks without idling. It reduces the amount of fuel wasted in truck idling. These generally consist of a small internal combustion diesel engine and generator with heat recovery system to provide electricity and heat. The simple APUs can produce heat for both the sleeper cabin of the truck and the engine. But these can not provide power to appliances like television or microwave. More sophisticated fully integrated units consists of a compressor, an alternator, and an inverter along with the engine. They can provide the power for running heating or air-conditioning system. The inverter provides electric power to the cab and sleeping cabin. These Auxiliary power units help in reducing emissions and noise and therefore good for our environment. They save the cost of the fuel and maintenance.

Auxiliary Power Units APUS: An auxiliary power unit or the APU is a small, self-contained generator used in aircraft to start the jet engines. They provide electricity, and air conditioning to grounded aircrafts. Many units can provide electrical power to the aircraft while on the air. APUs can be fitted to tanks for providing electrical power when stationary, to reduce the fuel consumption of the main engine. APUs were initially used in various military and commercial aircraft. In 1963, it was introduced in Boeing 727. Now a day’s most of the modern airliners are equipped with these Auxiliary Power units. APUs fitted to Extended-range Twin-engine Operations (ETOPS) airplanes are critical as they supply backup electricity and compressed air if the main engine fails during emergencies. These APUs can be started when the aircraft is in flight and at any altitudes. Space shuttles are also powered with APUs which provide hydraulic pressure. These units works during ascending and during re-entry and landing of the space ship.

Rigmaster Auxiliary Power Unit: RigMaster is the only stand-alone self-contained auxiliary power unit on the market. It does not share the truck's coolant or freon system and therefore will not affect the ability of the vehicle. The RigMaster Auxiliary Power Units are powered by Perkins 402C-05 engine. It drives a 6 KW Newage 120 V and a 60 amp alternator to keep the vehicle's batteries charged. The RigMaster does not sit into the vehicle's cooling system. It incorporates a cooling system. RigMaster utilizes automotive-style heating and cooling. The functions are controlled from the sleeper of the truck through a digital control panel with an optional user adjustable AutoStart feature. This system can be used to start the engine based on time, temperature or when the vehicle battery charge reaches a pre-set level. The entire APU is enclosed in a 26.5 in. x 29 in. x 30 in. dome-style enclosure to reduce noise and allow easy mounting on vehicle frame rails. Recently RigMaster has introduced a 13 hp Caterpillar engine with a larger capacity oil pan extend maintenance intervals. A new universal mounting system has improve compatibility with all Class 8 models and reduced installation time.
