Australian Passport Application: Australia Post provides a range of passport services on behalf of Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade including applications for Australian passport, renewals of Australian passports, distribution of application forms, interviewing applicants, collection of passport fees and delivery of passport documents. Australia Post does not issue passports. This is the responsibility of the passport office, within the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. One needs to pick up the application form, gather the relevant documentation as per the application form and make an appointment at the post office for the interview. All Australian passport applicants, except those who are under 18 years of age and unmarried, must personally attend a passport interview. All passport applicants need to prove their Australian citizenship.

Australian Passport Office:
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issues passports, both in Australia and overseas, to be used as evidence of identity and citizenship by Australians who are traveling internationally, in accordance with the provisions of the Australian Passports Act 2005 and other legislation. One can apply for Australian passport at most Australian post offices. Unless there is an immediate need to travel or special circumstances exist most people will find lodging their passport application at an Australia Post outlet, the most convenient option. The appointment system is designed to improve the delivery of passport client services to the general public. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's online passport services enable Australians to access passport application forms, track the progress and change delivery details of an application, access passport details, learn about the priority processing service, report a passport lost or stolen, pay the lost or stolen fee, pay the priority processing fee and view the current turnaround times for the offices.

Renewal Application of Australian Passport: If your passport has been lost or stolen or you were unable to renew it then you must complete a full adult passport application form and attend an interview. If you are unable to complete the form online and are overseas, you can telephone the nearest Australian diplomatic or consular mission. If you qualify, the passport staff will mail you the pre-completed Australian Passport Renewal Application or it can be collected from the mission where the form is requested. If you do not qualify, you can complete the full overseas application form online, or obtain an application from the overseas mission. If you are unable to complete the form online and are in Australia, you can telephone the Australian Passport Information Service. The operator will check your eligibility and if you qualify, he will mail you an Australian passport renewal form pre-completed electronically using information held by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. If you do not qualify, you can complete the full application form online, or obtain an application from an Australia Post office.

Australian Passport Form: Australian application forms include a simpler yet more secure identification system for applicants. Scanning and the use of intelligent character recognition technology permits electronic verification of the information provided. There are separate Adult and Child forms, in recognition of the importance of protecting children from abduction. The provision of separate forms for children highlights the fact that particular attention is paid to the issue of passports to minors. Some original documents including Australian birth certificate, Australian citizenship certificate, previous Australian passport issued, documents (originals and photocopies), documents that confirm your identity and residential address and passport fees are to be submitted with the application form.
