The new tools, Microsoft SharePoint Designer and Microsoft Expression Web, are partially based on FrontPage technology. Initially known as Vermeer Front Page 1.0, Microsoft FrontPage was developed by Vermeer Technologies Inc. Later, in 1996, after Microsoft had taken over the company, the name got changed to Microsoft FrontPage. Primarily meant for website designing, Microsoft sells FrontPage bundled with Microsoft Office, although it can also be bought separately. FrontPage is designed for the Windows operating system. Although Macromedia Dreamweaver is gaining wide acceptance everywhere, Microsoft FrontPage is still the favorite among small businesses and educational institutes.
